Callington Wins Virgin Galactic regional finals

Callington Star Cadets have won the regional finals of Virgin Galactics National Schools Competition

On Friday a team from Callington Community College won the regional finals of Virgin Galactics National Competition. The team cosisting of five year 9 students, had to design and make a prototype of a marketable product which used technology or ideas from Virgin Galactics Space Ship One.

Virgin Galactic will start flying paying passengers to space next year aboard Space Ship Two, and if the team win the national competition in July they will be flown as VIP guests of Virgin Galactic to California to meet with the engineers and pilots of Space Ship Two as well as witnessing the launch of White Knight Two, the plane that will carry Space Ship Two. The teams product was a combined arm controller and Head Up Display designed to educate the passengers on their flight into space. The judges from the RAF, Virgin Galactic and the Royal Aeronautical Society where impressed by not only the producyt but also the team work and ability of the year 9 students.
